Flambeau Sisters, Blaze's story

(Set in Newmarket, England.) Blaze Flambeau is one of seven illegitimate daughters of a penniless French countess and the Duke of Inverary "Magnus". With their mother deceased, the Flambeau sisters live with their father and their stepmother, Roxie. Each sister has a genetic gift. Blaze can communicate with animals. Magnus has given Blaze a filly named Pegasus "Peg". Blaze intends to race Peg and use her winnings to buy land for an animal refuge.

Though Blaze has no intention to ever wed, Roxie is determined to do right by her stepdaughters. This time Roxie's target is Blaze. To that end, Roxie invites three bachelors to dinner and the games begin. The choices Blaze will have are between Dirk Stanley, the Earl of Boston, Ross MacArthur, the Marquis of Awe, and Prince Lykos Kazanov of Russia.

Ross never thought he would ever fall in love; however, he soon finds himself partial to a lady with red hair, freckles, and noble causes. It is then Ross becomes determined to win Blaze's hand in marriage by fair means or foul. Things get dicey when someone desperate to win the Triple Crown begins harming jockeys, horses, and even Blaze. Ross, Blaze's family, and the legendary Constable Amadeaus Black pull their talents, wits, and resources to discover the villain's identity.

***** FIVE STARS! This story has several surprises in store for readers. Danger, suspense, betrayal, and humor combined to keep my eyes glued to the pages, eager to see what would happen next. I have high hopes that Raven Flambeau's story will be the next title's focus. (Raven's gift is as fascinating as Blaze's.) The author made this story even more adorable to me with the addition of odd animals, such as a deaf kitten. Then there are some very interesting secondary characters that I cannot mention or risk spoilers and revealing a surprise or two. I honestly believe this story by Patricia Grasso to be more sinful than chocolate! *****

Just ok.....

I really wanted to like this book. There was nothing wrong with the main premise of the story. We are revisted by many of the characters that are continuing in the Flambeau and Kazanov storylines. This is my fourth book in the series by this author and once again the female lead gets pregnant and needs to marry. This is a continuing theme in her series. The relationship between the main leads was just so-so. I was also annoyed at the continuing back story of Alex and Raven. Their relationship has been dragged through 4 books now with no conclusion in sight. I feel that I will continue to read the upcoming books because I've invested so much time already. However, I will likely wait until they are available at the library.

The scenes that fizzled it...

I read the first two Flambeau sisters stories. The first one (#4 Kazanov & #1 Flambeau) was the most enjoyable. I didn't feel like I had missed out on anything not reading the first Kazanov stories, the next two not so stand alone, as a reader I would feel like I had missed out not reading them in order. They are sweetly romantic if a little conflicting. I was smitten by all the characters (even flighty Roxie and the womanizing Duke, who is reminiscent of the Ralph Fiennes character in the Duchess) and drawn into the ever unfolding story between Raven and Alex. The love scene's in the first two stories are tame but well written. Not so in Marrying the Marquis!! I loved Ross and Blaze. They have fiery chemistry that has a bucket of cold water thrown on it every time a love scene comes up. These scenes weren't tame, they were bad uninvolved afterthoughts. They seemed to be the awkward love scenes as described by a twelve year old virgin. It killed the flow and feel of the entire story. I mentally cringed at every love scene (thankfully few) and wondered why Ms. Grasso even bothered. What could have been hot steamy or just suggestively romantic ended being the worst love scenes I have ever read. Ever. The rest of the book is enjoyable so much so it was hard to want to keep reading when I kept hitting the wall of disappointment. I actually felt bad for the made up characters Blaze and Ross. If you are following the series do your self a favor and skip the love scenes. They'll kill the mood as quick as baby crying and a five year old at the foot of your bed.

The Best Kept Secret of the Spiritual Book World

Quietly and unobtrusively this masterpiece has crept onto the market. A high quality hardcover published in India privately, the book is one of the best expositions of Advaita, meditation and Advaita in existence in the English language.

The book is a translated series of talks given by Siddharameshwar Maharaj in 1934 to a small group of his devotees including Nisargadatta Maharaj and Ranjit Maharaj. Nisargadatta was then a devotee; he recognised the greatness of his master and of his elder fellow disciples, and made notes of these talks as they were spoken, in Marathi. In later years the book was made available in two volumes in Marathi only. Within three years of meeting this master Nisargadatta realised and the rest is history! In 2006 it was translated and made into one high quality volume which also includes a re-translation of another book by Siddharameshwar, "Master Key to Self Realization" which makes up the first small part of the book. As far as I know only two thousand copies have been printed in English. The translation is ably made by a a man who had already translated J. Krishnamurti books into Marathi. In some places it is obvious that he has used Anglicisms unnecessarily, e.g. Priest instead of Brahmin; Illusion sometimes instead of Maya, but these are very small points and in no way detract from the book.

The teachings are profound, and exhibit the authority that only a Self- Realized man or woman can muster. It covers pure advaita, bhakti beyond liberation, and hammers away at the readers ego-consciousness in a way rarely ever seen in a book,it would have been an awakening experience to be present at these talks. In my own opinion, however, it is not for beginners on the path. If you simply dip into this book anywhere it will satisfy, but the wrong impression of what Siddharameshwar is getting at may be formed in places. It is preferable to hunker down and give time to read the whole book. I am personally reading it thoroughly for a second time, there is so much to glean from its pages.

Worship at the Feet of the Sadguru and Self-Realize

Master of Self-Realization: An Ultimate Understanding by Shri Sadguru Siddharameshwar Maharaj available by Sadguru Publishing May 22, 2010.

This work is a translation of words spoken by the Maharaj from November 11, 1934 to December 8, 1935. They contain in Them the fruit of Realization Itself. A disciple of His Grace, Shri Nisargadatta Maharaj, who had the remarkable privilege of recording these Spiritual Discourses of His Holiness, wrote two beautiful Prefaces (one for each of the two Volumes). Nisargadatta's Teachings are immortalized in the Discourses recorded in "I Am That". Also included are the informative "Note from the Editor" (by David Moe); "A Few Words About This Book" (by Satish Avhad); and "Translator's Note" (by D.A. Ghaisas). These three together give the reader a better sense of the rich Advaita history leading to the Spoken Words of His Holiness Shri Siddharameshwar Maharaj. As David writes at the end of his Note: "Jai Sadguru Parabrahman!"

The main text of Master of Self-Realization is made up of three parts. Part I is "Master Key to Self Realization" authored by His Holiness. Master Key is 7 Chapters within 76 pages, that open the book, prepping the reader well for the adventure he or she is about to undertake. Part II is Volume 1 of His Holiness' Discourses that concluded on October 2, 1935. Part III is Volume 2, the first Discourse of this Volume given October 3, 1935 and the last given December 8, 1935. The purity in this work is timeless. A work spoken in 1934 and 1935 might have some monastic and/or patriarchal biases. This work has none. In fact, where one might expect some great principle of "family" being rejected for the monastic mount or monestary, we don't find this at all. Women and family are given proper due. This beautiful set of advaita teachings is so fresh you immediately See its timelessness and eternal wisdom. Like a symphony it repeats the main chorus over and over again, but gently, never forced. The main chorus is: Your Ultimate Nature is the Supreme Self or Paramatman, Pure Brahman. Tat Tvam Asi!

The jiva becomes the aspirant or initiate when he or she somehow, somewhere or sometime decides to take up the spiritual path of awakening to the divine within himself and all life. How long one walks the path is ultimately up to the Self, but the aspirant can reduce the effects of Maya by devotion at the feet of the Sadguru or by being led to an external Guru. Next in an aspirant`s life, the Sadguru becomes the aspirant Who then becomes the Jnani with Self-Knowledge awakening fully to the fact of Atman (Self).

Potential buyer, a supposed jiva who is really the Self, buy this book. If you have no "official" path in this life yet, let this be the first step. There is every chance that you will Realize the Self by the end of your very first reading. If your faith is great and you devote your entire being to His Holiness, It may be possible in one sitting for you to meet your Self. But, it is also possible that The Science of Self-Realization as given in these three parts will come across to you as so simple that you will be in utter denial that It Is So. You will read the words and dream even more dreams of God and Realization. You will continue to imagine Realization and Project what you Think It will Be. If so, you will have to tread on your Path until the Self is given more preeminence in your life as the sole Reality of What You Are. Attempt at all times to think of your Self and nothing else. Do not give even a single thought, projection or moment of your imaginary time to anything else and you will Realize the Self. It is but a matter of time.

If you have a detailed Path and have recognized that you have sat at the feet of your inner Guru with the utmost of devotion, then maybe you too will Realize during the reading of this book like Me. Perhaps you are stuck as I was in the Void of the Causal Body and only need a slight tweak in your practices to allow the Self to dissolve you completely and finally enter into the Turya state of the Great Causal Body. Or, perhaps you are a Realized One and by some incredible bit of bad fortune don't know about "Devotion after Liberation". Let His Holiness Shri Sadguru Siddharameshwar Maharaj introduce you to Uddhava's request that Krishna grant Him Devotion after Liberation so that Uddhava would not become like "wood" and could continue to be devoted at the feet of His Beloved Master after Self-Realization. If so, You, too, can definitely benefit from reading this book!

Or, perhaps you are just interested in non-dualism and Its Teachings. Perhaps the dualistic philosophy of traditional religions no longer makes any sense. If so, buy this book and let the simple understanding and teachings on Advaita Vedanta laid bare in It become your True Friend. To do this, though, the content of Master isn't something you just read. This is something that you live, eat and breathe every moment of your life.

How does One come to Realize? Through worshipping at the feet of the Sadguru! If you unfamiliar with what this means buy this book. Briefly, though, this means that you practice the teachings you have been given from within and from without. This starts with all of the principles your mother and father or any good mentor has taught you growing up. The Sadguru, however, is every jiva's inner Guru. Thus, He is with you always. You just need to learn how to let Him speak. Through various practices meant to quiet the jiva's mind, the voice and vision of this inner Guru grows stronger and begins to dominate the jiva's attention. This is Self-Attention of the aspirant on the path.

The path the initiate has been on is of integral importance to the type of attention the initiate will end up giving to the Sadguru. To become an initiate, every jiva must accept some of the common teachings about the jiva: you are conditioned by the world of illusion, time and attachment to shape and form. This attachment is called "ego" which is illusion or "Maya". This Maya is the jiva's mind that thinks the body and the world it inhabits is real. The Sadguru will teach you that your True Nature is Love beyond all transient phenomena. All the suffering that you have ever experienced will be seen for what it truly offers, nothing. His Holiness will convince you of This. He will convince you that to worship at His feet is the Blessings of God and the Source of Life-Energy (Chaitanya). A promise of contentment, peace and blessings without compare will be repeated over and over, sometimes subtlety and sometimes not so subtlety. A promise to go beyond all of your present conceptualizations will be stated clearly and succinctly. For You are greater than any concept, including that of "God". The very concept of "ego" as who you are and "God" as Being separate from you will be so dissolved you'll wonder what those teachings ever offered You!

Profound, life-changing, informative--bring your faith to these words

This is esoteric, obviously, so if you are interested in Self-Knowledge, if you are looking to awaken the Buddha within, if you are hoping to awaken Christ Consciousness--obviously these are the terms one has already come to know who is meant to read this text.

Reading I Am That--Nisargadatta Maharaj was essentially my introduction to this book. This is a book containing profound teachings. Whatever I say is only words here, they do fall short of this work. If your search has led you here, drink.

About the Author

Darrell Clifton, CPP, is Director of Security at Circus Circus Hotel Casino in Reno, Nevada. During his 25 years in Security Management, he has spearheaded the creation, writing, and implementation of new policies and programs on such topics as Workplace Violence Prevention, Hotel Security, Casino Security and Surveillance, Crime Prevention, Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity, Drug Recognition, and many others. Clifton chairs several community and national organizations, including the Downtown Police Tax District, Alcohol Advisory Board, Washoe County Business Preparedness Committee, and the Northern Nevada Chapter of American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS). He also sits on the board of directors for Secret Witness, AlertID, and is the vice chairman of the Hospitality, Entertainment and Tourism Council. He is a frequent contributor to Security Magazine, Casino Journal, and a speaker at ASIS; Reed Exhibitions; University of Nevada, Reno; University of Nevada, Las Vegas; and Gamepath. Clifton is also a FEMA-certified Continuity of Operations Manager and participates in several state task forces to plan, write, and implement Continuity of Operations (COOP), Continuity of Government (COG), and other emergency plans. He was named by Security Magazine as one of the most influential people in the security industry.

Well Written and Extremely Thorough!

Well written, easy to read and extremely thorough. Great coverage of all areas of hospitality security, but applicable to security directors and managers in all areas/fields. The book covers Planning, Budgeting, Polices, Staffing, Training, Physical Security, Emergency Procedures/Preparations, Investigations and Security Executive Skills. A reader-friendly resource for anyone in or wanting to enter the security industry.

This book exceeded my expectations as it very relevant for anyone employed in the security aspect of the hospitality industry. Mr. Clifton's insight and wit adds to the value of this book. About the Author
Mariëlle Hoefnagels is an associate professor in the Department of Biology and the Department of Microbiology and Plant Biology at the University of Oklahoma, where she teaches courses in introductory biology, mycology, and science writing. She has received the University of Oklahoma General Education Teaching Award and the Longmire Prize (the Teaching Scholars Award from the College of Arts and Sciences). She has also been awarded honorary memberships in several student honor societies. Dr. Hoefnagels received her BS in environmental science from the University of California at Riverside, her MS in soil science from North Carolina State University, and her PhD in plant pathology from Oregon State University. Her dissertation work focused on the use of bacterial biological control agents to reduce the spread of fungal pathogens on seeds. In addition to authoring Biology: The Essentials and Biology: Concepts and Investigations, her recent publications have focused on creating investigative teaching laboratories and integrating technology into introductory biology classes. She also maintains a blog on teaching nonmajors biology, and she frequently gives presentations on study skills and related topics to student groups across campus.

Only reason this book gets 1 star is because the information is poorly organized and introduces too many topics at once. It's hard to follow with and it implies knowledge rather than tells the reader what they need to know. Bad book for an introductory biology class.

She had to deal with the aftermath of financial meltdown in the country and the impact that has her personally. She also has to deal with series issues faced when dating a younger man.

Book Three poses yet more issues for our brave heroine. She learns that she cannot compromise who she is for another person. This is a very tough road as she is very human, full of hope and desire. Her world is also full of adventure, daring and exploration. She seizes every day and shakes the guts from it. She has a second chance at living and while her path is not clear, she is taking every opportunity that life can offer.

The Prequel is a collection of three stories based on peripheral characters from Book One; the novella was long listed for a Doire Press International Literary Short Story Award in 2013.

Warm, Sexy and Fun

The Cougar Diaries, Part 1, is a true-to-life story of one womans' fight against the world. Struggling to cope with the breakdown of her marriage, running the family home, holding down a job and bringing up two teenage boys, Aoife, with the help of her best friend Trish, decides it time to get back out there and see what else life has to offer.

A new haircut, wardrobe, underwear and a surprise gift from Trish are just the beginning for Aoife and she quickly notices the amount of attention she's receiving .....particularly from younger men!

Since her marriage breakdown, many of their 'joint' friends seemed to take sides and her social circle slowly began to diminish. It wasn't long though before Trish dragged her to a party and introduced her to a few single men ....including Sex-God Chris!!

This was the beginning of a whole new life for Aoife complete with exploring dating sites, trying rampant rabbits, a delve into the world of BDSM and the most hilarious strawberry incident i've ever read!! I'll quite frankly never look at one the same again!! lol

Compared to Fifty Shades, this book is so much easier to connect with as it gives a realistic outlook on life and the many ups and downs that come with it. Not only is Aoife trying to reveal a newer, sexier her, but she's also dealing with an impossible ex hubby who seems to want nothing more than to make things as difficult as possible for her ....even removing items of property from her home while she wasn't there! The fact that her job also hangs in the balance just adds to the anxieties she has to deal with.

It's thanks to her brother George and best friend Trish that she manages to cope and finally sees a light at the end of the tunnel, although it's a long way off yet.

You're gonna have to read it if you want to find out more, but I highly recommend it! There's not as much sex as Fifty Shades but don't let that put you off as the parts that are there, are well written and described in enough detail to create those familiar little 'stirrings'.

Better still, you can buy it for your Kindle and nobody need ever know what you're reading .....although they will get curious when you burst into giggles throughout!

The “Cougar Diaries Part 1” comes after the book “The Cougar Diaries, the Prequel” continuing the story of the female character Aoife Brennan who is now newly single. I loved reading about the character’s interaction with dating and trying to decide on what are the best ways in dealing with it. She has only gone on a few dates that ended up being horrible dates providing nonstop laughter for her friends. I look forward to reading the next part of the book.

Aoife Brennan's 'Cougar Diaries' is a slick and pacey read; Aoife's passionate story of feverish obsession will grip you till the end.
